Can Bora — The Helix

Can Bora — The Helix

Sun 29.01 17:00

One heart but a multitude of dynamics

The Helix is an inner journey with no ending and no beginning that exalts the sensorial body. Structured as a contemporary theatre piece using different mediums such as movement, text and live editing on stage through the Green Box Technique, it tells a queer Twin Flame* story fluctuating between present and past. By revealing and adapting the practice of gaze between the Anatolian Sufi mystic Rumi and his beloved friend Shams to our days, the Helix winks at the meanings of love, but more than that, it speculates the importance of the self-intimacy and the Other when it comes to the manifestation of the self, produced by our archetypal dynamics.

Firstly premiered at Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2022 and also published as The Other Side of The River, a written story in Doing With Things by ArtEZ University of The Arts, Can adapts the HELIX as a performative story telling for Mezrab – The House of Stories. In the performance, Can will interactively question the hundred meaning of love. Throughout the show which will transform the stage into a dance floor to celebrate our existence, the audience is kindly invited to somatic experiencing with Can, that is, to awaken their bodies and the power that lie within them. After all, we all should celebrate our hearts since there is a crowded party within!
